Maintenance/Lawn Care
Q. What is the best day to have my property maintained?
A. The best days to have your property maintained are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays for homeowners (Monday for corporate clients). Why Wednesday? Well, except for approximately 6-8 weeks in the Spring when turf and plants are their peak growth, there is very little difference in cut appearance come the weekend.
Q. Do you catch or recycle the clippings?
A. Wherever and whenever we can we recycle the clippings back to the turf as grass blades, and leaves being 80% water and nutrients, are the very best compost for building long-term highly organic soil. We only catch when an area is too small or we may get too many clippings in gardens or around pools and water features. If we choose not to catch your grass clippings, be assured even if we have to do a double cut based on a 7-day mowing cycle, there will be no extra charge to you, and you will always have a high quality appearance. We will also accomodate any particular customer requests.
Q. I have to have my property cut on Friday. Can you accommodate me?
A. We base the scheduling of our clients on the following: Open availability for existing or new route: Route density and efficiency: With the price of fuel and labor, we route just like UPS and Federal Express. If you have a particular day request, please let us know and we will do our best to accomodate.
Q. I’m having an event or party, can you pay special attention at my property?
A. Please let us know 7-10 days ahead and we will provide weekly service the day before your party. With 14 days notification we can also provide a detail crew service, mulch, pruning and seasonal color so that your property will look its best before your big day!
Q. How much water does my lawn need in the summer?
A. As temperatures rise into the triple digits, all lawns, plans, trees and gardens nee to have their water usage adjusted. We can remind you to do so or adjust your timers ourselves, based on the temperature and the amount of area you are watering. Trees, plants, lawns, and gardens all require different amounts of water. Watering to much can be just as damaging as not watering enough.
Q. Do you provide shrub pruning?
A. Yes, we do. It is one of the most sought after services. We can provide this service as a one-off seasonal service upon request or as part of our regular maintenance to our year-round clients.
Q. Do you provide commercial grounds maintenance service?
A. Yes, we do and we have done so for over 20-years. When curb appeal and image really matter, Sierra Vista Landscape is your best choice.
Q. What types of maintenance plans do you offer?
A. We can provide maintenance service on a weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly basis.
Q. Do you provide seasonal color?
A. Yes. We provide spring bulbs, summer annuals, fall mums and more. Programs and prices are customized to the season, size of property, and specific client requirements..
Q. How can a well-landscaped home help to sell my home?
A. According to appraisers and realtors, a beautifully landscaped home will sell fast and for more money.
Q. How do plants and trees help?
A. Plants and trees absorb ozone-damaging pollutants, produce oxygen and help keep temperatures down and according to the Plants for Clean Air Council, efficient landscaping can reduce heating and cooling costs by up to 20%.
Q. How is a lawn helpful to the environment?
A. A turf area 50′ x 50′ can absorb enough carbon dioxide and hydrogen fluoride and convert it into enough oxygen to suport a family of four.
Q. How much will it cost me to hire your company?
A. This all depends on the services being requested, but our prices are the lowest in the west valley based on the services and quality we provide. We would be more than glad to provide a free, no obligation free quote.
Q. When and how should my shrubs be pruned?
A. The following is a basic guideline for pruning. When present, damaged or diseased shrub-limbs and branches should be removed. Most flowering shrubs and ornamental trees, should be pruned after blooming and before the next year’s buds set. Prune whenever possible for plant health and to keep the natural shape of the plant. Some ornamentals and vines require dormant pruning in late winter. We highly recommend hand pruning over shearing.
Q. Why should I have mulch on my property?
A. Mulch provides the following benefits for planting when done correctly: For shrubs and ornamental trees, a mulch base of 3″-4″ is recommended. It helps to keep weeds in check, retains moisture in the soil and adds organic matter to the soil as it decays. Woody, ornamental and evergreen trees do not need or want their soil cultivated around their roots.
Q. How about mulching annuals or perennials?
A. Mulch should be limited to 1″-2″. Ideally a mulch compost mix would be a better choice. Unlike ornamentals, annuals and perennials like loose, tillable soil, so too much is not good.
Q. What type of mulch do you sell and install and what is the cost?
A. We sell the following, from least expensive to most: Double Hammer mill, Pine Bark, Cedar, Hemlock and Licorice Root Mulch. Pricing is based on site conditions and quantity. Bed preparation is extra. We do not recommend Pine Nugget as it has no value to your plants and we do not use dyed mulch. We at CJL feel dyed mulch cheapens the look of your landscape.
Q. How often should I water?
A. Turf grass should be watered 3/4″ – 1″ per week. Shrubs and trees should receive deep watering 1-2 times per week. Annual and perennials should be watered 2-3 times per week. This answer is for established landscapes. Watering amounts varies throughout the year based on temperatures.
Q. What type of program do you offer for fertilization and control of weeds?
A. As different people have different expectations of how they want their landscape to look and also what they want to spend, we offer a basic plan that is more of an option-based plan, whereas our premium plan is more inclusive of all turf and landscape services.
Irrigation/Lighting
Q. Do you install and service irrigation system?
A. Yes. We can install and service residential and commercial systems. Please call for more information and a free no-obligation quote.
Q. Is odd/even watering necessary?
A. In most cases the answer is no. It is an easy way for towns and water companies to track restrictions on outdoor watering during peak-water-use periods. It is not very healthy for your landscape. And in our opinion promotes over watering.
Q. I am considering an underground automatic sprinkler system. Can you tell me about it?
A. Think of a sprinkler system as enhancing Mother Nature, not to replace her. In times of dry conditions, it can free you from hours of watering and can, if installed correctly, ensure proper moisture to turf and plants. Don’t think of it as set it, and forget it. Irrigation systems require spring and fall service and periodic water-schedule changes as conditions warrant, but it’s easier then dragging out the hose.
Q. Do you repair and service low voltage lighting systems? I’m not sure of the brand as we just moved into our home.
A. We can and do service all professional brand name systems, Cast, Kichler, Focus and Hadco to name a few. If you have an irrigation system, we can do both at the same visit. Ask our office staff how it will save you money.
Design/Construction
Q. If you design my landscape, how will I maintain and care for it?
A. Any designed or installed work Sierra Vista Landscapes provides can be maintained or serviced by us as well. This includes full landscape planting, sod or seed, lawn irrigation or installed lighting systems.
Q. What can I expect to spend landscaping my entire property?
A. Assuming your asking for all key components, hard scape, fencing, drainage, irrigation, lighting, plant material, etc., a realistic range is 10%-15% of your home’s value. This can be higher or lower based on site conditions, access, plant selection, housing market, etc.

I have tons of experience working in various occupations, which have helped me become the person who I am today.
In 1989 I started working in the Local 345 Union, in California. There, in a four year span, I received my apprenticeship certificate in pluming to be a Journey Man Foreman. I worked there for 8 years. There I had great opportunities to work in Hill Crest Golf Course in Beverly Hills, and Half Moon Bay Golf Course in San Francisco. There, I would be in charge of all the landscaping and new irrigation.
After a few years, in 2003, I began to work for myself, with the help of a licensed architect in California. In four years I built a successful business, where I would do everything from stamped concrete, to landscaping.
After visiting Arizona, I felt the need to move to this wonderful state. In Arizona, I was offered a chance to work for Valley Crest. I worked for Valley Crest for several years, both here in Arizona and in Nevada, Las Vegas. In Vegas I had amazing projects; where I worked in The City Center, Encore, and M Casinos.
In 2010, I decided I wanted to start working for myself doing what I love, so I got my contractor’s license in landscaping. Now I am a proud Landscaper. I do pavers, block walls, professional tree trimming, maintenance, outdoor lighting. In total I have 24 years of landscaping experience. My name is Pedro Lopez, and I am your go-to Landscaper.
